ASSITEJ Spain is pleased to announce the celebration of the World Day of Performing Arts for Children and Youth, which will take place on March 20.

World Day of Performing Arts for Children and Youth is an initiative by ASSITEJ International to raise awareness of the importance of guaranteeing the right of access to art for children and young people, celebrated and promoted through the message "Take a child to the theatre, today".

We want this day to be a celebration of all those who, in one way or another, are linked to the performing arts, professionals in the sector, but also teachers and, of course, the public.

We believe in the power of theatre and performance. The performing arts allow us to explore ideas that extend what we see and understand to other parts of the brain, heart and spirit. They offer us a human connection. They inspire fantasy and imagination. They engage young people in an empathetic exchange that allows for individual and collective transformation. They use all intelligences. They appeal to all the senses to create wonder and stimulate thought.

This is what we do, all over the world, wherever our members meet, and we do it with knowledge, skill and ingenuity. We do it in the streets and in the big theatres, in schools, in homes and on the stage. We make theatre for, with, by and about children and young people, wherever they are. Children and young people need theatre and performance and, because of their lack of power, they need adults to help them experience it.

ASSITEJ Spain is a non-profit cultural entity that works to guarantee the right of access to art for children and young people in the field of performing arts. It is a founding and full member of the international organization ASSITEJ, founded in Paris in 1965 by the UNESCO International Theatre Institute as a global alliance of professional theatre for children and youth. Today it is a worldwide network that unites thousands of theatres, organizations and individuals from more than 90 countries.
