Presentation of the 2013 ASSITEJ-Spain National Award to the Torrente Ballester Municipal Library in Salamanca

The Assitej Children's Theatre Association - Spain, part of the international association Assitej (with national centres in more than 80 countries), held its annual awards ceremony on 18 May.

The event took place at the headquarters of the Torrente Ballester Municipal Library, on Paseo de Los Olivos in Salamanca.

Led by the president of Assitej Spain, Lola Lara, and the Councillor for Culture of the Salamanca City Council, Julio López Revuelta. The event brought together a hundred people.

In his speech, Mr. López thanked the Library workers for their enormous effort: “Because with their work they reach where budgets do not reach” and expressed his political commitment to the entity.

Coordinator of the Children's Section, Sound Library and Video Library), Marieta Monedero (Library Technician. Programmer of the Torrente Ballester Library Theatre), Lola Lara (President of Assitej) and Ana Gallego (Teloncillo Company of Valladolid).

In his presentation, Lara advocated for culture as a vehicle for social cohesion in times of crisis and highlighted the work of artists and managers who work for children.

The Assitej Spain National Award goes to the Torrente Ballester Municipal Library It was awarded by vote of the members who thus recognise the careful attention the library pays to early readers and spectators, as it has a section of Children's and Young Adult Literature, which also has a baby library and the section SOS Parents!, to disseminate and promote knowledge in the relationships between parents and children; its notable activity in the field of reading promotion workshops and storytelling, but its Theatrical activity has deserved real consideration, with a theatre with a capacity of 250 spectators and a stable programme of shows for children and young people.
