From May 15 to 18, 2024, in Valencia, the 2024 Playwriting Meeting for Children and Youth will be held, organized by ASSITEJ Spain, AVEET (Valencian Association of Writers and Theatre Writers) and Escalante Centre for the Performing Arts.
Drama writing for children and young people is experiencing an incredibly rich moment. Many authors are developing high-quality, daring dramatic literature, using new languages, that speaks to children, without taboos, about the reality they share.
The nature of the audience this theater caters to requires a commitment to ending infantilization and didacticism by proposing artistic quality. Reflecting on how we address children and young people requires an open and shared perspective. This is an issue that involves playwrights, companies, producers, managers, programmers, teachers, and researchers.
