Based on Pedro Salinas' version of The Song of the Cid and on some ballads from the Cid cycle, this theatrical adaptation for children tells the adventures and fortunes of the legendary hero Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar. There are so many characters and so many events and battles described by the poet that, to make the performance possible, we sometimes had to bring together several characters into a single character, and we did the same with the battles and events of the Cid's life, trying not to lose the overall thread of the narrative. Gisela López: Director of El Retal, a company founded in 1997. This is her second production with the company and the second adaptation she has written for children's theater. Like almost all puppeteers, Gisela sometimes invents her own stories, builds the puppets, and lends them her voice and hands. But since puppets aim to make a lasting impression on children, they require preparation, and so he sometimes takes courses in acting and puppet making, and he reads—a lot, because reading, as puppets say, keeps his imagination awake and his sadness asleep. He has collaborated with other companies such as El Retablo (where he began his professional career in 1987) and La Tartana.
