Two years ago, the representative of an active autistic association in Jaén asked me a question: can theater in any way help children (and their parents) understand other children with certain special characteristics, children who often don't play, who sometimes perform repetitive movements or shocking actions, who, in short, don't usually offer opportunities for interaction, and who, in some cases, barely speak? Since then, during certain intervals over the course of two years, I have tried to find an answer to that question. I have sought to educate myself on a world as complex as it is varied, and I have done my best to find dramatic and narrative strategies that appeal to the widest possible audience, while taking care not to distort the complex reality of autism. In this way, the story of Pedro and those who live with him has gradually emerged. And I've enjoyed embarking on this journey, this search, and discovering where characters and a plot led me. These characters also connect with certain issues that particularly interest me, related to the difficulties of interpersonal communication and the diverse perceptions of reality. The result is Pictograms. I hope you enjoy it too.PictogramsI hope you enjoy it too.
