Tomás Afán's play, winner of the 2012 ASSITEJ Award for Children's and Youth Theatre, will premiere at the Ayala Theatre in this town on September 23 at 9:00 p.m., by the professional theatre company PRODUCCIONES 099.
The dramaturgy and direction were carried out by the Canarian Carlos Alonso Callero (José Luís Alonso de Santos Award from the Association of Stage Directors of Spain - 2007). The first phase of rehearsals took place in La Aldea de San Nicolás (Gran Canaria)
"It's a work that brings us closer to the world of autism, allowing us the opportunity for metaphor, the relevance of critique, and the artistic demands of poetry," says Itziar Pascual, playwright and professor at RESAD.
Alonso's poetic and creative world gives the text magical dimensions, filling it with surprising nuances.
'Pictograms' is many things, but above all, "it's a cry of desperation into the void," comments the stage director. "A princess locked in a castle tower. A man in pajamas, presumed dead and buried in a coffin. My mother's canary. The tears of a child. The whimpers of an abandoned puppy, or the eternal movement of the planets; they gaze at each other, but don't touch. All of this is PICTOGRAMS, our take on a text by Tomás Afán Muñoz: A mother and son condemned not to communicate. A golden cage. A room that has frozen. A lost island. A bottle in the ocean and a dead clock."
This will be the fourth production directed by Alonso for PRODUCCIONES 099 (Specials, Couples, and Mature), which, along with others he directed for various performing arts companies, has been making its mark in Castilla-La Mancha.
The cast is completed by actor-producer Aníbal Fernández Laespada and actress Pilar Hernández Baptista. The choreography is by Esther Acevedo, and the lighting design is by Jacinto Díaz. This show is supported by the Daimiel City Council and the Aldea Suites hotel complex in La Aldea de San Bartolomé.
