Beginning in the 1990s, Mexico experienced a series of cultural transformations: book fairs were promoted, awards and incentives for playwriting were established, and theatrical publications for children and young people expanded.

In this field, works are beginning to emerge that propose an aesthetic that transcends the educational or instructive purpose that dominated the stage in previous years. It was only in the first decade of the 21st century that children's theater in Mexico began to address themes that had long remained silent, such as illness, migration, and death.

In this sense, the book examines the most recent panorama of children's drama in Mexico. Starting with a review of the concept of childhood, its relationship to children's literature, authors, and themes in drama, it delves deeper into three works: Martina and the Birdmen, by Monica Hoth, Goodbye, dear Cuco, by Berta Hiriart, and October Child, by Maribel Carrasco, works that allow us to determine whether there is a particular structure in current children's drama and to understand the elements that compose it and their constants.
