The missatges of this quest have been written by Joyee, aged 8, from India, and by Jojo, aged 11, from Australia. All of them attend the House of Muchness, in Brunswick, Australia. They are not renowned writers, they are just reflections of children from very different countries. At the House of Muchness there is an environment where young people can belong to a collective and build social relationships, artistic expressions and discover creative companies. These are the transcripts of a conversation with the founder and artistic director, Alex Walker.

The president of ASSITEJ International, Yvette Hardie, from South Africa, has also written, with each other, a missatge.

MISSATGE OF WORLD DAY 2019 BY YVETTE HARDIE, PRESIDENT OF ASSITEJ

We live in a mess of division and confrontation. Al our voltant, per tot arreu, trobem leaders i stratègies amb l'objectiu de confrontar las personas per motius de race, language, culture, economic position, gender, sexual orientation, lleialtats to an idea, pertinence... Gairebé everything that in fa humans has been used for some to generate a greater division i build higher walls aixecats on the sospita i l'odi. In this way, apparently we revolve around the concept of Ubuntu, the African ethic that declares: "Sóc perquè ets" and "a person is a person through the relationships between other people."

What can we do to reverse this abysmal evil that is causing all our fills and filles and, from fet, to our mateixos?

Children need to be able to experience moments in community in which they remember sharing and appreciating the multiple realities of what it means to be human. It is necessary for countries to explore new forms of thought that challenge these narratives of confrontation, in which there is empathy for those who are most different from these subjects. They need concrete experiences of communion, communities, that remember the joy and beauty that the world offers.

ASSITEJ understands that the theater provides multiple avenues of access to a better feeling of connection with others, and (most importantly) with our mateixos.

Recently, the New Victory Theater in New York will publish the results of five studies of the benefits of theater for children and young people. One of the most important and unexpected troballs is that exposure to theater will offer these children greater hope for the future. The results are to be contrasted in a control group in which those who are not going to attend theatrical performances and workshops in this material period will express a more pessimistic perception of the various future possibilities in terms of study and professional opportunities.

Why is hope so important? Hope produces positive energy that is translated into confidence, strength of will, resilience and, finally, into concrete actions to make a difference in one's own and other's lives. Everything needs hope.

Therefore, we commit to bringing a child or young person to the theater and would gather the necessary support to guarantee that all children and children have access to the arts and the theater, regardless of their personal and social circumstances. As we work in the sector, we are committed to providing quality experiences that change the way younger generations perceive the world: women and children of today's world and the future.

JOYEE'S MISSING (8 YEARS)

Everything is related to the theater. Vaig néixer in a lloc in the theater was very special. To l'India.

I realized that I was in an orphanage, I knew that theater was important there. The meva mare is part of the theater. Jo soc part of the theater. Faig House of Muchness, which is a type of theater… fem spectacles. You sew like this. All kids have fun things to do, like House of Muchness. I also have Bollywood because it's on vinc.

Everything is theater. It's difficult to explain. I wouldn't try to explain it to someone you don't understand, I would simply teach you and explain it to you.

The theater is you. Everything you do is theater. Everything that surrounds you is theater. You are theater. All the people work together with the theater. Per fer a great show. I this spectacle is your life.

Sense theater has no imagination. People would not be able to be mateixa. Sense històries, tothom s'avorriria always. They would be a little sad, they wouldn't feel sad. It would be like the moon. No one could communicate with the other major players.

If you don't have imagination... well, the only thing that can fix things is the theater. So you learn things. I can teach you things about love. How it is possible to look at it in different ways. I have different people who may not know if they can estimate themselves… well, yes they can. If it's a really good story, please let us know. The theater is special, it is bo and it is bonic. I have to feel all the feelings: if a show makes us feel sad, it also makes us feel hope... that something good can happen soon. I gairebé always passa.

JOJO'S MISSING (11 YEARS)

Tinc 11 anys i soc dyslexica. I'm a person who gave some paraulotes. Vull que la gent m'entengui com sóc. Vull be part of something. I am a person who changed the world. I am part of the Partit dels Nens, which goes between children, ideas and politics in a theater show. You could start exchanging the mon this way.

The theater is important because it explains stories. The stories teach generations and generations of people who are passing. Come on, why are you here and what a fan, here. Things I need to know. Així we can understand the people and the fan.

My first show is actually going to be a music festival in Adelaide that's on my mother's side. The first theater show I remember was going to be an opera. Because Roger's kitchen is an opera singer. The Roger was the meu avi.

I love the theater in which you have to serve your imagination, your own imagination, which is different from that of others. This theater in which you sew them is difficult to see or not, you have to imagine-them. Invent-them. I llavors pots veure-les clearly. But people may have a different story or images of their own cap compared to the one that made up my cap.

If you do not bring your children to the theater, the theater will end. The theater shows vines, corses and animals in action. If you brought a nen to the theater, a petit nen, I wouldn't explain it or say res pel camí. I hope you see it and explain it later.

If I say that I cannot see more theater, I would be sad, I would be angry.

If you don't see some of the things I've seen at the theater, it wouldn't be nice.

I like how I am.
