Originating from the Institute of Theatre and Performing Arts (ITAE), created in 1985 by the Department of Culture of the Principality of Asturias, to meet the need for solid theatrical training expressed by the world of the Asturian scene, the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático del Principado de Asturias was born by decree of the Department of Education and Culture in 2002, teaching the specialty of Interpretation in Text Theatre. The studies comprise four years, after which the Degree in Dramatic Art is obtained. Our headquarters at the Universidad Laboral, with more than 5,000 square meters of surface area, has excellent facilities, not only because they meet all the technical and space requirements desired, but because the north wing of La Laboral, where the ESAD resides, is one of the most beautiful spaces in the architectural complex of La Laboral. Likewise, the ESAD has always had a sufficient and capable teaching staff that provides highly personalized teaching. The ESAD has fully equipped classrooms for acting, body, voice, music, characterization, theory, new technologies and audiovisuals. It also has a library and classrooms-storage for scenery and costumes. The ESAD is part of the Laboral City of Culture complex, made up of our School, the La Laboral Theater, the Professional Conservatory of Music and Dance of Gijón, the Center for Art and Industrial Creation, the University and the RTPA.
