Miguel Arreche dies

Our dear friend Miguel Arreche has died. Last Thursday, due to a stroke, Miguel passed away, leaving Spanish puppets more orphaned than ever. Linked to puppet theatre by true love, Miguel, who was not a puppeteer but a manager, has been at the forefront of such fundamental initiatives as the Tolosa International Puppet Festival, which celebrated its 30th anniversary last year and which received the Assitej Spain National Award in 2010 (awarded by vote of its members); the Tolosa International Puppet Centre, the well-known Topic, which in its still short life has become a world reference for puppetry. Miguel was on the board of Unima Spain, of Unima International and, to show his consideration for the work we do at Assitej, one day many years ago he also joined us. Miguel was a fighter and tenacious person. Without his persistence, together with that of Idoya Otegui, the 'miracle' that is the Topic would never have been possible. Miguel was a combative and loving person; his intensity and energy will always remain in our memories.
