Our member, Nieves Rodríguez Rodríguez, has been awarded the 2024 Lope de Vega Prize for her work. Palimpsest [Denmark Notebook], an investigation into the memory of children exiled in Denmark in 1937 and which aims to be a defense of writing as a political act of resistance.
The jury noted that the winning work "offers a very personal perspective on one of the journeys of the children's diaspora motivated by the civil war, which ended in Denmark. Nieves Rodríguez achieves a very expressive balance between the organic flow of the language and a more poetic register, in a text that brings together María Zambrano, Ana María Matute, Natalia Ginzburg, and Louise Glück. A work, moreover, with clear stage potential."
With this recognition, Nieves Rodríguez Rodríguez establishes herself as an important voice in contemporary drama, as well as a clear advocate for the need to view children as active participants in the construction of society.
Congratulations!
