The 2nd National Dance Meeting for Children and Youth, convened by ASSITEJ Spain, took place in Madrid on December 9 and 10, 2021. Representatives from a total of 14 professional dance associations at the regional and national levels, along with representatives from 10 autonomous communities, attended the meeting with the aim of identifying actions leading to the visibility, appreciation, and promotion of dance for children and youth.
The conference was structured around three working groups focused on the topics of Education, the Specificity of Dance for Children and Youth, and Research. The panels hosted presentations of current work and projects, problem assessments, the identification of objectives, and the proposal of strategies. The evaluation of the event resulted in the identification of 15 key strategic points for the visibility, appreciation, and promotion of dance for children and youth in Spain.
The 15 strategic points outlined below summarize the diagnoses, objectives, and strategies discussed during the meeting, with the aim of coordinating actions for change at the municipal, regional, and national levels to improve the conditions of the dance sector, focusing on children and youth:
The 15 strategic points detailed in this document address the most pressing obstacles facing the dance sector for children and young people. Each of them incorporates strategies that, through assessment, planning and implementation by technical professionals in each of the areas described, would bring about important changes for the world of dance for children and young people.
This document can therefore constitute a map of objectives and actions that ASSITEJ and the rest of the organizations and agents involved can adopt as their own, both in their work interacting with Public Administrations and Institutions (advocacy), and in their sectoral and professional structuring.
